Dr. Karen Joanson joined The Joint Chiropractic family in 2017 when she became the local chiropractor for the Sandy Springs and Buckhead clinic locations. A graduate of State University of New York - Oneonta, she received a bachelor’s of science degree in psychology and a doctorate of chiropractic from Life University in Marietta.

Dr. Karen -- you can also call her Dr. K -- could not be happier doing what she’s doing.

“The best thing about being in the chiropractic field is healing people’s spines so they can live the best self they can be,” she says. “I also love the interaction with people of all ages.”

Dr. Karen grew up in New York before coming to the south for college. In her spare time she enjoys travel and, more locally, riding her bike on the BeltLine.

She says she loves working here because of the great wellness coordinators and the great working relationship she has with Dr. Erika.

“I knew chiropractic was my calling when I saw how powerful it is in the healing process,” Dr. Karen says.

In Case You Didn’t Know

Dr. Karen says the one thing she always keeps in her kitchen are avocados: “They’re a great saturated fat!”

If she could meet any four people from history for the dinner party of her dreams, Dr. Karen would like to gather together a president, a painter, a doctor and a singer: “I would love to talk to Daniel David Palmer, who invented chiropractic; George Washington, our first U.S. president, to talk about all the changes that have happened; Vincent Van Gogh, the post-impressionist artist, because I love his works; and Madonna because I loved her music growing up and she influenced a generation.”

Dr. Karen says her own real-life brush with greatness has provided some of the coolest experiences of her life. “I have worked on many movie sets and provided backstage chiropractic to many musicians,” she says. “I loved working on Def Leppard and the set of the ‘Walking Dead.’“

Logan at the Dunwoody location is an exceptional provider. The time and interest he takes in each patient is superior to any chiropractic service I’ve ever received. My husband and I both always plan our visits on days when Logan is the practicing therapist. You won’t be disappointed!

I have gone to chiropractors offices before and I should have stuck to just that. Where your provider can show you your progress. This was just a waste of my time and terrible customer service. I called to cancel because I knew that I wouldn’t have time to come in for any adjustments because, life. The receptionist almost laughed saying “well we charged you for this month today so you can come in until the next processing day”, despite me just telling her that I can’t in fact come in moving forward I unfortunately haven’t had time and my workload just keeps growing. She said I wouldn’t be charged moving forward but that there was no way to reverse the charge, (so just a lie). The next month I’m charged again despite what I was told and requesting my membership be canceled for the previous month. Then I’m told there is no record of our conversation and that there is a form I have to sign to cancel that wasn’t emailed, as if I as the customer know policies that were never communicated to me and as if I failed to send myself a cancellation email I didn’t know about. Then I am Again told that I can come in for adjustments until the next month, when my membership should have been canceled 2 months ago at this point. So I’m being charged for services that I need to manage pain but am not able to receive because of long work hours and having children, normal human things and this company has no compassion for customers who have normal inconveniences, (that really only harm me) but they instead take advantage of those hardships. Just go to a real chiropractors office, where they have real measurable records of your treatment and progression. This place will just take advantage of the misfortune and stress in your life and add to it. And if you think to yourself “they must be credible I see them everywhere” it’s that they’re very good at taking advantage of the automatic renewal scheme and consumers. After I requested this cancellation email that I was never told about and I complete it and send it back I’m told that my membership still isn’t canceled until I print 2 other forms off and bring them into the office where I signed up. Now for a person who already is in discomfort and pain and finds their schedule too demanding to get the treatment they need, this extra Extra process will make it even harder for them to escape a membership. A decent place would say we are so sorry that you have not been able to receive the treatment that you need to help you feel better we can adjust your charges, membership, whatever so we can help you heal/provide you a positive customer experience and treatment for until you are no longer in pain. However each person I’ve spoken to about this has run from the opportunity to provide a positive customer experience. I’m having to pay for these services because of real pain that I fear as a young person but my life doesn’t stop for my pain. These people don’t act like “people” who understand they could be in the same situation. And to think of how they likely prey on older people… I will be finding a better alternative this is not it.

When I walked into The Joint last week I could barely move my neck. After two sessions with Dr. Karen, I am feeling much better and have gained back most of my mobility. I’ll be visiting The Joint again for sure! Great experience and I felt genuinely cared for by Dr. Karen!

I believe your chiropractor should be someone you trust and has your best interests in mind. After my experience at this location, I feel quite the opposite. Intrigued by an advertisement in the window, a friend and I decided to inquire and sign up for our first visit. The receptionist, an African American woman, was very pleasant. She explained to my friend that another person closely matching her name was in the system. After researching further, she realized this was not the same individual or the individual was never serviced. Just then, a woman (one of the chiropractors, I believe) appears from the back and says, "I overheard your conversation..." She works OVERTIME to determine whether my friend had ever visited ANY location in the United States. My friend insisted that she may have visited another location prior serveral years ago, but never actually booked and attended an appointment. Nonetheless, the woman was DETERMINED to disqualify my friend, mentioning that all locations use a database with history dated to 1999. She scoured the database for at least 4-5 minutes, locating every iteration of my friend's name! It made us both very uncomfortable. Overall, the woman was very short and persnickety. The vibe felt like she simply did not want to service us. This particular location needs to understand that the object of advertising and signage is to gain foot traffic. It would behoove them to be warm and inviting towards potential customers. I'm all about energy, so I would never let this woman or any other person in that office touch me. I implore you to find a different location!

I have nothing but great experiences with this business. I have migraines and they have definitely helped me manage them. Eric, Jacob, and many others have listened to my concerns and worked with me to continue to improve my health. Highly recommend them.
